The City In The Clouds

At the altitude of 1.560 metres above the sea level, and 380 kilometres North-West Hanoi, Sa Pa has been known since the beginning of the century as a famous tourist resort with the very unique beauty of its own.

Unlike Tam Dao and Da Lat, Sa Pa has special grace of a city permanently merging in the clouds, with many romantic names such as Silver Waterfall, Cloud Bridge... There are about 200 villas with most diverse and original architectural designs which are fancifully coloured by different styles of different ethnic minorities: Dao, Mong, Day, Kho Mu... yet they still have the appearance of modernity with garden surrounding them and all merging into the dusk of the cloudy valley. Discover very unique beauty of Sapa with Vietnam Travel.

Sa Pa initiative enters World Challenge Awards finals

The initiative, called Sa Pa Healing by Sa Pa town-based Sa Pa Essentials Ltd (SPE) and 11 others have been selected from 930 initiatives for the final round of the World Challenge Awards, a contest for projects and enterprises that help change lives in local communities. The 2007 awards will be presented to groups that really make changes in business and grassroots initiatives.

The mountainous region of Sa Pa in northern Vietnam is an invaluable storehouse of medicinal plants – many of which have been used for centuries by the local population. Sa Pa Essentials was established to protect these species from the increasing threat of over-harvesting while at the same time boosting incomes and improving lives within the community.

Sa Pa in spring time

Even in the cold weather, the young tribal people of Sa Pa make visitors feel unforgettably warm with their radiant smiles. During spring time, the fragrance of flowers, the colours of ethnic fabric of H’mong, Dao or Thai women, and the sounds of flutes and the leaf-horn of the village’s young men and women leave a strong impression of Sa Pa on every visitor.

To visit Sa Pa during spring time, tourists may book the “Sa Pa – the beauty of the Highland” tour through Saigontourist. Tourists will be picked up and taken to Tan Son Nhat Airport to fly to Hanoi. In Hanoi, tourists will be arranged their hotel rooms and visit well-known destinations such as Tran Quoc Pagoda, Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam (Old Royal University), and some famous districts of Hanoi.

Sapa gears up for Festival in the Mist

An exhibition of ornamental trees and colourful flowers of all kinds and shapes is also on the program. A lot of photos will go on display, depicting the misty town’s peoples and landscapes in the past and now.

Excitement will rise in the night of April 29 when young men and women from nearby villages gather at the cho tinh (love market) to woo each other by singing traditional songs.
